Rabbits are surface animals that can be hunted using snare traps.

Behaviour

Rabbits will wander about the surface of the shelter. Wandering rabbits cannot be interacted with. After being caught with a snare trap, they can then be interacted with. Caught rabbits can either be harvested for resources, or eaten.

Harvesting

After a rabbit is caught by a snare trap, it can be harvested for four resources: meat, leather, bones, and animal fat. Rabbits will always give you items. This means the player will always receive meat, leather, bones, and animal fat.

Uses

Rabbits can be quite useful, especially in the early game. meat cannot be consumed by itself, and is only useful for crafting into cooked meat, which only fills 30 hunger. However, they can serve as a robust food source in the early game, so long as you build a cold enough room to prevent the harvested meat from spoiling. Having a constant supply of cooked meat just from harvesting caught rabbits can be a more efficient food source than even canned food.Leather is used in crafting the lowest tier bulletproof vests and stab proof vests, the "Improved" tier these vests, as well as camouflage, satchels, explorer backpacks, and light punching bags. Finally, animal fat is used as fuel for the incinerator.
