Map

Sheltered 2 has a world map that is accessed by pressing 'M'. The player's shelter, as well as places that can either be searched, allow survivors to work there, or affect the region are considered "locations" and are listed accordingly in their respective categories.

Locations

Salvage Sites

Sheltered 2 has many locations, and many of these locations can be searched by expedition parties to obtain resources necessary for building up your bunker. These locations are named "salvage sites". Searching salvage sites can give you items of any quality, whether it be wool, or ★★★ pipes. However, be careful when salvaging in locations near factions, especially those you have a bad reputation with. Because attacking the faction and lowering their reputation will not look so good on your weekly faction report.

Work Sites

Most of the game's locations also allow survivors to be sent to work there. These locations are known as "work sites". Unlike salvage sites, junk from work sites are guaranteed to be quality. I t is particularly good to send someone to work at a mine. The speed at which someone works at a work site can be increased by unlocking the 'Production Manager' skill in the Charisma skill tree.

Biomes

Biomes are areas on the map that differ from the wasteland and cities. There are two biomes, the forest and the mountain range. There can also be bodies of water, but water is not really a biome because it does not have locations in its region and it can't carry animal encounters.

Forest

Forest biomes are indicated by thickets of trees on the map. They slow down expedition parties, and carry an increase chance for hostile animal encounters. Unlike the mountain range biome and bodies of water, there is no way to decrease water costs for traveling through forests.

The forest biome is special, as it is the only biome of them all, that allows you to hunt for meat. Hunting is a great way to obtain a bunch of meat fast, but it's still possible for hostile wildlife to attack when hunting.

Forests can contain the following locations:

Discoverable Locations (Forest)
Name Possible Items Salvageable? Workable? Total Discoverable
Reservoir Tank Dirty Bottled Water ★? Yes ??? 2
Clearing Flora ??? ??? ???
Shack ??? ??? ??? ???

Grass

These biomes are indicated by patches of plain grass on the map. These biomes are very similar to regular Wasteland biomes, as they can carry city locations, as well as reservoirs.

Discoverable Locations (Grass)
Name Possible Items Salvageable? Workable? Total Discoverable
Reservoir Water Yes Yes 2

Mountain Range

These biomes are indicated by groups of dark mountains on the map. As with the forest and water, they will slow down any expedition parties, and will carry an increase chance for encounters with bears or wolves. The mountain range biome can be made slightly less dangerous by crafting and equipping climbing tethers, which reduce the water costs for travelling through mountains.

Mountain can contain the following locations:

Discoverable Locations (Mountain Range)
Name Possible Items Salvageable? Workable? Total Discoverable
Cave? Water Yes ???
Mine Gold Scrap, Sand, Silicon, Silver Scrap, Magnesium, Zinc, Gold Nugget, Silver Nugget, Cordite Yes Yes ???
???

Water

Water is an area that slows expeditions when crossed, but it doesn't carry any wild animals. This can make water a safe space at the cost of more bottled water needed. Like the mountains, the cost to travel across water can be reduced by crafting and equipping the Inflatable Raft.

World Generation

As with the first Sheltered game, the world map in Sheltered 2 is procedurally generated, which means the map will be different with every save.
